PuTTY is a free and open-source terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application. It supports several network protocols, including SCP, SSH, and Telnet. (The name "PuTTY" has no official meaning.)
Configuration of PuTTY
Download PuTTY from here. And install following these instructions. And now launch PuTTY.
Now you can see the PuTTY Configuration:
Enter the IP address of IPFire at Host Name (or IP address). The port is 222.
You can bypass a repetition of that, when you pick a name into the Saved Sessions as example IPFire, and by clicking the Save button.
Handling of PuTTY
Now you can see under Default Settings IPFire, you only need adouble click on it and a new PuTTY window, the PuTTY shell opens. Now you are connected to your IPfire by SSH.
At the login as: prompt type in root, and confirm with [Enter].
Now a root@192.168.0.1´s password: appears, type in your IPFire-Password for root, and confirm again with [Enter].
You should see the following:
Now you can control the complete IPfire with PuTTY, just like you sit in front of it.
If you want to close your session just type exit into your shell, or press [CTRL]+d. PuTTY will close itself correctly and without any troubles.
