This board is the predecessor of the APU1C and because it is older, it has very low equipment. The board may be enough for private and SOHO usage. The main disadvantage is the poor RAM which limits the number of services it can run. One advantage is the Hardware Random Number Generator and a co-processor for encrypting and decrypting AES which support the slow CPU. It is a 32 bit board and should be considered legacy hardware. The 32 bit version of IPFire has had End Of Life announced for 31st Dec 2021.

Storage
The system has a CompactFlash socket. The CompactFlash card is used in True IDE mode. Hot insertion is not supported – please power off the unit before inserting a CF card.

The system comes with three Via VT6105M 10/100 MBit Ethernet Controllers.
Expansion
There is one miniPCI slot, LPC bus for 802.11 wireless cards or other expansion.
Cryptography
The system provides a Hardware Random Number Generator to speed up encryption and decryption. There is also a co-processor for encrypting and decrypting AES.
Temperature
The system provides a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of the CPU. The CPU gets not very hot also without a heatsink.
Power Consumption
The system comes with a 18V, 1.2A external power supply consuming about 3W at Linux idle, peak about 6W without miniPCI cards and USB devices. Optionally the board can be supplied via passive Power over Ethernet.
